SERVPRO Tips: Emergency Planning
3/4/2020 (Permalink)
Emergencies happen at a moment's notice with no warning and barely time to react... have you and your family discussed what you should do in the event one should happen to you?
Taking some of these steps will help prepare you and your family in the event you are faced with an emergency in your home.
- Develop an emergency exit plan. Ensure your children know where they should go and an alternate route in the event the main one is blocked off.
- If you have pets, make sure you have a family member assigned the responsibility of ensuring they are with you.
- Make sure everyone knows where the emergency kits are.
- Keep a list of emergency contacts in each family member's phone.
- Keep all important documents in a kit that you can gather quickly as you are exiting the house or in a fire/water proofed container. Make sure all family members know where they are located in the event something happens.
- Have a bag packed with a set of clothing and hygiene items that you and your family can gather during the evacuation. This bag should include items your pet(s) will need as well.
- If one of your family members requires medication, ENSURE you have at least 3 days worth of medication available so they will be okay until you can reach a health professional.
It is always a good idea to review the evacuation routes and plan of actions periodically to ensure your family knows what to do at any time.
